New Report: “Revamping Licensing & Preparation for Teachers in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and the Early Grades”

This comes to us from our friends at Cherish Every Child and Strategies for Children:

“The New America Foundation’s Early Education Initiative today released a report that highlights problems nationwide with the licensing and preparation of teachers who work with young children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first-, second- and third-grade classrooms. The report, “Getting in Sync: Revamping Licensing and Preparation for Teachers in Pre-K, Kindergarten and the Early Grades,” shows that today’s system is not set up to ensure teachers in pre-kindergarten through the third grades are well-prepared to work with young children.

While the report highlights the major concerns of various teacher training programs, the document also looks at promising practices to guide future planning.  We thought this was an important report to share with you, as it may guide new policies on licensure.  Share your thoughts with us; how do you feel about the findings in this report?  Should changes be made?
