If you or your students have viewed the PBS Kids’ program Wild Kratts, you’ve seen the adventures of Chris and Martin Kratt combine science education with fun and adventure as the duo travels to animal habitats around the globe. Each adventure explores an age-appropriate science concept central to an animal’s life and showcases a rarely-before-seen wildlife moment, all wrapped up in engaging stories of adventure, mystery, rescue, and the Kratt brothers’ brand of laugh-out-loud-comedy that kids love.
Currently, PBS Teachers is featuring a Wild Kratts’ lesson on lizards for grades 1-4 with activities that enable students to explore the diversity of lizards’ characteristics, behavior and habitat and help them to identify a special characteristic of each lizard that helps it thrive in its habitat.
As they explore the special adaptations of different lizards and gain a comprehensive understanding of how this group has diversified to adapt and thrive in specific habitats, students use the important skills of analysis, observation and conducting an experiment. At the end of the lesson, videos from Wild Kratts offer students more ways to discover and learn key science concepts and encourage them to explore science in the natural world around them!
