TED.com – A Resource Worth Exploring

If you seek the best resources for learning, you may already know about TED Talks, a nonprofit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading.”  (Newsweek this week listed TED.com as one of best resources to keep our brains working.) One recent inspiring talk on TED is Award-winning teen-science in action about three young women who in 2011 swept the top prizes of the first Google Science Fair. In this 16-minute video (all TED talks are designed to be short), they describe their extraordinary projects and their route to a passion for science.

Among scores of TED talks that could serve as stimulating supplements to lessons, you might want to check out “What to Watch Next on TED”:

Eva Vertes looks at the future of medicine  Only 19 when she gave this talk, Eva Vertes discusses her journey toward studying medicine and her drive to understand the roots of cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Natalie Warne:  Being young and making an impact  At 18 Natalie Warne’s work with the Invisible Children movement made her a hero for young activists.  Her inspiring story can show students that no one is too young to change the world.

Thomas Suarez:  A 12-year-old  app developer  While most 12-year-olds love playing videogames, Thomas Suarez taught himself how to create them. After developing iPhone apps like “Bustin Jeiber,” a whack-a-mole game, he is now using his skills to help other kids become developers.
