We promised you inspiring talks about education from TED.com and hope you’ve watched and listened to at least some we posted here. (You can search here for earlier recommended TED talks.) One talk that recently left me awestruck — My Wish: Once Upon a School — is by Dave Eggers, whose first book , A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
Now a philanthropist and teacher-at-large, Eggers started 826 Valencia, a San Francisco-based writing and tutoring lab for youth in 1998 that spawned six more U. S. chapters. Students rarely have enough advocates, and Eggers supports them by supporting educators, including a monthly grant for exceptional Bay Area teachers. A recipient of the TED Prize, his wishes for more people to participate in their local schools, using the website Once Upon a School, which Dave established when he won the 2008 TED Prize and was given one wish to change the world.
