Genetically-Modified Food Crops

fh_primaryIn “Harvest of Fear,” FRONTLINE and NOVA explore the intensifying debate over genetically-modified (gm) food crops, interviewing scientists, farmers, biotech and food industry representatives, government regulators, and critics of biotechnology.  WGBH, producer of FRONTLINE and NOVA,  and PBS LearningMedia offer a range of resources related to this two-hour report that presents both sides of the debate exploring the risks and benefits and the hopes and fears of this new technology.

A Teacher’s Guide for “Harvest of Fear” includes viewing ideas, classsroom activities, ideas for teachers, related NOVA resources, and an interactive for students.  Among its resources on this topic, PBS LearningMedia offers an interactive for grades 9-12 , “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” where students can browse through a table full of genetically modified (GM) foods to see what’s available now and what’s to come.  Also included is a background essay and discussion questions.  You can also search “genetically modified foods” at PBS TeacherLine for other resources related to “Harvest of Fear” and more.
