THE ADDRESS, Ken Burns’ 90-minute documentary, airing on WGBY April 15, 2014, tells the inspiring story of the Greenwood School in Putney Vermont, where students are encouraged each year to practice, memorize, and recite the Gettysburg Address. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s oration and remind us of its principles, WGBY challenges everyone in our region — especially students — to join others across our country who are video recording themselves as they read or recite these enduring words.
In its exploration of the Greenwood School, THE ADDRESS unlocks the history, context and importance of President Lincoln’s most powerful address. You can learn more about how to participate in WGBY’s project, which is part of a larger national partnership with Ken Burns and PBS, who have launched this major public outreach campaign.
At Learn The Address, you’ll find many familiar and not-so-familiar figures from political life, business, entertainment and more reciting the address as well as classroom tips for memorizing the Gettysburg Address.
