A Poem for Mother’s Day

Listening to Daisy Zamora read her poem “Mother’s Day” can help us (and students) understand that real mothers are other than the picture-perfect model mothers we still find on television and film and in magazines.

This reading comes from Poetry Everywhere, the inspiring website we shared here during Poetry Month in April.   It was then that I discovered Daisy Zamora reading “Mother’s Day.”  Perhaps you won’t be surprised to know that in 2006 Zamora was honored as Woman Writer of the Year by the National Association of Artists in her native Nicaragua.  You can read a more complete bio as well as find other inspired writers reading their poetry on the Poetry Everywhere website.
