50 Inspiring Books for Teachers, Including One by Local Author

While experience trumps most things, many teachers have favorite books they use and reference throughout their teaching careers. A recent article in the June 14, 2014 edition of eSchool News, by whether a book is aimed at new teachers, building teacher confidence, substitute teachers, or inspiring teacher tales, it’s clear that there is no shortage of wisdom when it comes to teaching. The article briefly describes ten of 50 recommended books, including Teaching with Fire: Poetry That Sustains the Courage to Teach, written by a Smith College professor and co-founder of Project Coach, Sam Intrator.  Project Coach, with whom WGBY partners, is an organization that works to bridge the economic, educational and social divisions facing Springfield youth by empowering and employing inner-city teens to coach, teach, and mentor elementary school students in their neighborhoods.
