Fred Roger’s Legacy — Teaching Us to Value Ourselves & Each Other

Whether we’re a preschooler or a young teen, a graduating college senior or a retired person, we human beings all want to know that we’re acceptable, that our being alive somehow makes a difference in the lives of others.”  Fred Rogers

People from celebrated actors to parents who grew up watching Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood testify to the power of this gentle teacher.  This video clip captures some of his countless teaching moments and reminds us of early educational media’s impact, which today extends far beyond television. Fred Roger’s legacy of teaching about subjects like acceptance, friendship and gratitude continues with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, its main character an animated rebirth of the Daniel Tiger puppet on Mr. Roger’s original show.  Resources for the program found at PBS LearningMedia number into the hundreds. The quotation at the beginning of this post was sent to me by the Fred Rogers’ Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media where you, too, can subscribe to receive their Monthly Quote and, if you like, additional email communication.
