While a full day’s schedule makes it challenging to visit other teachers’ classrooms, dedicated teachers take on challenges that strengthen their practice everyday.  Visiting other classrooms and observing teachers in action can improve the ability to create constructive, productive environments and plan lessons, which is why administrators can consider time spent in and reflecting on other classrooms worthwhile professional development.

In this video from Making the Case, math teachers Leticia Lopez and Eddie Torres plan lessons together and later will observe one another’s classroom. Visiting other classes provides a chance for teachers to listen for student arguments, to how they form conjectures, present reasoning and critique one another. Observing this in another teacher’s classroom can help implement the argumentation and critique standard in the Common Core Standards in Mathematical Practice. Watch the video to learn more.
