Reading Nonfiction / Current Events: Strategies & Resources

A recent article entitled Before, During and After: Strategies From Our News Q’s Feature for Reading Nonfiction in The Learning Network:  Teaching and Learning with The New York Times suggests how to engage and empower students in their reading.  Some of these strategies may already be in your tool box, but others can expand your resources to improve students’ comprehension and personal connections to what they read.  The article’s compelling examples range from politics to social media to arts and literature and more.  The strategies can also be adapted to lessons plans, assignments and extra-credit projects, and they’d would work well with the wide-ranging nonfiction and current events content at PBS LearningMedia, such as The Daily News Story from PBS NewsHour Extra.
