As we near the end of National Education Week, this clip from a 6-minute TED Talk might make you curious to learn more about how to predict success in education. For making such predictions, psychologist and former educator Dr. Angela Lee Duckworth says we need to better understand students and learning from a motivational and psychological perspective.
Duckworth, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, studies non-IQ competencies, including self-control and grit that predict success both academically and professionally. In her full talk she describes the one characteristic that emerged as the key predictor of success – GRIT. You can hear her entire TED Talk at PBS LearningMedia. She also more fully discusses the subject in an interview about what is grit and how can you learn it: https://www.youtube.com/embed/vxkUv5PKano” target=”_blank”>
