Launch of WGBY Collection at the Springfield City Library and You’re Invited

For many years, WGBY has made its vast collection of PBS content available to educators throughout Western Massachusetts, giving direct access to over 2,000 DVD/Blu-ray discs for classroom viewing. Now, the general public will be able to enjoy this growing content — for free with just a library card.

The launch of the WGBY Collection at the Springfield’s Central Branch, 220 State Street, is May 24 at 1:00pm and we’d love you to join us there if you can.

In the past, the WGBY Video Lending Library Service maintained a database of over 4,500 teachers (Prek – 12) and loaned more than 4,000 pieces of media.  With WGBY’s partnership with the Springfield City Library, the content will now be cataloged along with other C/W MARS (Central/Western Massachusetts Automated Resource Sharing) materials, circulating among 149 member libraries with online reservation access to more than 1 million registered borrowers.

Titles in the Collection will include PBS series such as Nova, Frontline, Masterpiece Theater, and American Experience as well as titles from other producers, including NASA and the Annenberg Math Libraries.

“Thanks to the Springfield City Library and the American Graduate

Pabón-Hernandez, WGBY’s director of community engagement and
education. “It is exciting that the public will now be able to enjoy our
video collection. At the same time, we want to re-emphasize to teachers
that the content remains available to them for their use in the classroom.”
