While hardly news to educators, the HuffPost recently reported on a survey from the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA) confirming that teachers spend a great deal of time reteaching content because of summer learning losses.  Until students attend school throughout the year, resources like This Egg in a Bottle Experiment from Maya, full-time kid from PBS Parents, is one of many summer resources to try and help stem learning loss:

To keep kids learning over the summer, Alabama Public Television (APT) has found PreK-12 resources — for mathematics, reading, science, digital citizenship and more — that you can share with parents.

Here’s a list of those resources from PBS LearningMedia:

• Move It! (Grades 2-8)
  Go on a treasure hunt, do some surf yoga, or make some tropical tacos! Explore some awesomely fun summer activities with WSKG Public Broadcasting’s “Move It!”
• REACH Parent Training Series: Digital Citizenship (Grades PreK-2, 13+)
  Teach your kids how to be a good digital citizen! Get tips from ThinkTV Network.
• Full-Time Kid (Grades K-5)
  Mya the Full-Time Kid has some cool summer learning activities for your kids, like an egg-in-a-bottle experiment and how to make giant bubbles!
• PARCC and Common Core for Parents (Grades K-13+)
  School readiness doesn’t stop over the summer! Discover tips for how you can prepare your kids for Common Core and PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers).
• Launching Young Readers: Empowering Parents (Grades K-4)
  For approximately 40-percent of kids, learning to read is a challenge. Learn how to recognize the early signs of reading problems and get kids the support they need (from Reading Rockets).
• Digital Parenting: Protecting and Empowering Kids (Grades 6-12)
  With some extra free time, no doubt kids will spend more hours online this summer! Find out how to help your kids balance use of digital media while empowering them as digital citizens.
• Math is Everywhere (Grades PreK-1)
  What can waiting in line or cooking dinner – everyday acts – teach your kids about math? Keep them on their toes with simple math learning opportunities this summer.
