In its purest sense, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, something to be practiced every day in our classrooms and personal lives.
Remember those childhood days (and maybe more recent ones) when we felt our hair was too frizzy or straight or our bodies too short or wide — especially when we compared ourselves to others?
It’s never too soon to teach children to love their bodies and themselves and to recognize that comparisons only make them feel worse — or better — than someone else.
PBS LearningMedia resources such as this video I Love My Hair from Sesame Street and In So Many Ways, We Are the Same from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood can help children love their gifts and those of others.
A search of “respect” at PBS LearningMedia provides more resources to foster love for self and others in the classroom and beyond.
