As this clip shows, Cyberchase teaches kids to use their heads when it comes to taking care of their bodies. (Watch more Cyberchase and you’ll see how mathematics fits into the equation:)

Math meets movement in Springfield this month as WGBY leads local students in the Cyberchase Step It Up! program.  Because our bodies and minds are interconnected, we’re grateful to  be able to share these resources that encourage kids to keep their minds and bodies fit.

Cyberchase, produced by WNET, is an Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids series designed to improve problem-solving and math skills.  Its three courageous characters inspire kids to have the confidence and enthusiasm to use math in everyday, real-life applications.  You can find Cyberchase resources at and at PBS LearningMedia by searching “Cyberchase”.

With the aim of increasing quality physical activity in America’s schools, Cyberchase Step It Up! is a collaboration between WNET and ChildObesity180’s Active Schools Acceleration Project (ASAP) at Tufts University.

Chosen to be a participating partner in the “Step It Up” challenge, WGBY is providing pedometers, electronic templates, lesson plans, and other resources to 4 Springfield elementary schools — Brightwood, Elias Brookings, Lincoln and German Gerena — where a total of 600 children, grades 2-5, will wear the pedometers to track and increase their daily number of steps over 5 weeks.  Near the end of the program, WGBY will host a celebration to acknowledge the efforts and accomplishments of these children, including a special appearance by a Cyberchase character!
