Today is National Summer Learning Day, reminding us to keep kids learning and safe as we work to stem the summer learning loss that widens achievement gaps among our most vulnerable student populations.
Because WGBY Education knows that our target audience — underserved children in nearby neighborhoods — experiences the summer learning loss that results from more than two months away from school, we’re about to launch our 2017 Summer of Fun & Learning. The four summer interns you see here, 1 from Smith College and 3 from Putnam Technical-Vocational Academy, enable us to have the greatest possible impact from weekly summer visits to the YMCA, Head Start sites, and WGBY’s North End Center for Literacy & Learning at Gerena Community School.
At these sites we’ll engage preK – grade 7 children with enriching books and beloved PBS KIDS digital and print materials that will help us to learn and teach together over the summer.
