Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month on Air and In the Classroom

Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 – October 15, reminds us of how important it is to celebrate cultural diversity in our country.

With its mission to educate and enrich communities and connect the people of our region, WGBY offers the following programming to celebrate and teach Hispanic heritage:

September 22 at 9:00: On Two Fronts: Latinos & Vietnam

Friday, September 29 at 9 & 10pm:  Craft in America:  Borders (Note: Craft in America education guides educate, involve, and inform students about how craft plays a role in their lives, with connections to American history and culture, philosophies and science, social causes and social action.)

October 6: The Hispanic Heritage Awards

PBS LearningMedia provides a multitude of resources for students of all ages to learn about Hispanic culture.  For example, the Latino Public Broadcasting Education Collection offers educator guides, lesson plans, and unique materials to engage students with the rich history of the Latino.  You’ll find many more resources that you can filter by age and resource type when you search “Latinos” at PBS LearningMedia.
