This video shows a 2016 PBS LearningMedia and Stand Up To Cancer Emperor Science Award recipient, one of 100 high school students named last year.

PBS recently announced this year’s Emperor Science Awards program, designed to empower high school students to become the next generation of cancer researchers. Through a unique mentoring program, each student works with a university-level research scientist on a multi-week cancer research project.

Entries for the 2017-2018 school year are open to 10th- and 11th-grade students who have a strong scientific interest, especially in cancer research and care, including prior applicants or recipients in those grades. Entrants will be required to complete an application and submit an essay now through November 1, 2017, 11:59 pm ET, and winners will be announced in December 2017.
