December 1st is World AIDS Day, and you can help students (Grades: 9-12) understand the impact of AIDS in countries like Mozambique, where AIDS-related diseases are emerging as a major cause of death among children.

As you can see in this trailer,  FILMS BYKIDS: Home is Where You Find It introduces students to sixteen-year-old filmmaker Alcides Soares, an AIDS orphan who, along with Vovo, survives on the income from their food stand, earning just 20 cents a day and living in extreme poverty.  This PBS LearningMedia resource, The Impact of AIDS in Mozambique, offers teachers many support materials that will help maximize student impact, including powerful ways to extend the lesson.
