Lorraine Hansberry’s Powerful Play “A Raisin in the Sun”

Anyone who has taught (or simply watched) “A Raisin in the Sun” knows its power to convey the sorrows of social injustice and the hope of a new day.  On Friday, January 19, at 9pm, WGBY premieres American Masters’ Sighted Eyes/Feeling Heart, which explores the inner life and works of the activist, playwright and author of “A Raisin in the Sun,” Lorraine Hansberry.

You’ll find resources about the play and playwright  when searching “Lorraine Hansberry” at PBS LearningMedia.   These include video clips and support materials from A Raisin in the Sun Revisited, a performance documentary that captures the history and legacy of the work and the backstage challenges of mounting two issue-driven plays simultaneously.  You’ll also discover the American Literature Source Set, a collection that uses primary sources to explore various works, including A Raisin in the Sun
