NEPM Days at the Springfield Museums!

Please join us for NEPM Days at the Springfield Museums on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 2 – 11, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Based on the popular PBS animated kids’ series, “Nature Cat: Backyard and Beyond” is an interactive, bilingual exhibit that inspires families and children to understand that nature discovery can happen anywhere!  Various areas of the exhibit provide opportunities to learn about nature, use math skills to explore the natural world, use tools to investigate environments, and — equally important — work and play together.

During NEPM days, Nature Cat will make meet-and-greet appearances, and families can take home PBS-themed games and activities.  If you’re an NEPM member, please let the Museums know to receive $2 off admission!

You can also see this promotional video in Spanish (en español).

Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness

In this video Fred Rogers says that he always loved his teachers.  Many — if not most of us — know what it’s like to love a teacher.  While it’s always time to show our love and respect for teachers who love what they do, Teacher Appreciation Week is a special time to say, “Thank You !”

PBS has appreciated educators since its early days when it was known as “Education Television,” and we understand that teaching is hard work!  One of the heavy demands on teachers’ time is finding the best resources to inspire students, and Continue reading

Giving Thanks to All Teachers

We have a bounty of resources to help learn about giving thanks. (Recent resources we shared for Native American Heritage Month, of course, are also appropriate.  After all, can we really separate Native American heritage and Thanksgiving?)

But, first, the Thanksgiving holiday allows us to thank educators — all those teachers, parents and many others who dedicate themselves to teaching the young to grow strong in mind, body and spirit.

NEPM is privileged to share resources that Continue reading
