Autism Awareness

As we mark Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd, you’ll find awesome resources from PBS to engage children across the autism spectrum.

Sesame Street And Autism:  See Amazing in All Children recently announced its expanded commitment to the autism community with all-new educational resources that will culminate in a special episode of Sesame Street that welcomes Julia, our new Muppet friend with autism, to the famed neighborhood.  The “Meet Julia” episode airs nationwide on PBS on April 10th and adds to resources widely distributed last year.  Building off an already robust suite of resources, new content in Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children will include digital videos, books, eBooks (all available in both English and Spanish).

When you tune in to PBS KIDS the week of April 10, you’ll also find new episodes from other favorite series, including Dinosaur Train and Arthur, which promote awareness, acceptance and understanding of ASD

Another popular resource on PBS LearningMedia is the Thomas & Friends Autism Collection. For example, because many children with autism spectrum disorders are interested in the motion and predictable patterns of trains, this autism-friendly segment of “Thomas & Friends helps ASD students learn the value of hard work.  You’ll find the entire collection here.
